Connie
and I approached the idea of building a home in Green Lake with
a lot of questions and concerns. First, the challenge of building
a home brings it's own set of problems but doing it long distance
made the problems more difficult. We had heard horror stories
about building from people who could stop buy their "project"
every day. How would it be to build and only be able to see the
project every couple of weeks?? Would the work be done right and
could we trust that we would actually get everything we paid for?
And more important than the money, would the work be done right?
After
the personal references that we received from people in the area
our search for a builder was narrowed down to three firms. After
our meeting with the "Davis team" it became clear that both Connie
and I felt comfortable about working with you. In fact, as our
project progressed, it was actually a great advantage for both
of us to have a "man and a woman" that we could communicate with.
Neither of us ever felt that one of us was more important to you.
It was truly a group effort.
As
a business owner, I was immediately impressed with your professionalism.
We had been in the area for five years before we met you and have
been disappointed by many of the tradesmen in the area. They always
have good intentions but rarely seem to follow through. I found
my experience with your firm to be the exact opposite. Your ability
to manage the project, deal with our changes and get the job done
on time was impressive. Not to mention the "can do attitude" vs.
the "I don't know about that attitude", that is so pervasive with
tradesmen. You delivered a plan with a budget and you stuck to
it. I never once questioned your integrity. I always felt that
I got what we paid for. In fact, I sometimes felt that you were
more concerned about saving me money than I was. What a refreshing
change!
We
originally thought that there would be no way to complete the
project without an outside architect. However, working with you
on the design not only saved us money, but we felt much more a
part of the project and got exactly what we wanted. Not to mention
the time that we saved and being able to start the project sooner
that we ever thought we could (critical when you only have so
many weekends per summer!).
Your
suggestions were always based on not only esthetics but also build
quality and function. You were often the "unemotional" partner
that helped us make the right decisions. From managing the site,
using the land and saving the natural resources (100 year oak
trees), to your constant attention to detail and craftsmanship
we couldn't be happier. Like when I asked "Jim, did you put a
drain in the garage?", you responded with "John, I wouldn't build
a garage without a drain". And then, your suggestion to run soft
water up to the garage so when I washed the "toys" they wouldn't
get water spots was something I would have never thought about
but would have complained about for years! Connie should thank
you for that one!
I
could go on and on but would rather suggest that if someone wants
a personal reference on your company and our experience with "Jim
and Penny Davis" that you have them call me direct (847-439-8808
ext. 21). You can tell them with confidence, before they call,
that "you look forward to building their home". You will be their
builder when I am done with them!
We
look forward to continuing our relationship with both of you,
personally and professionally.
With
warmest personal regards,
John
